Some people come here for my Fortran page. Others want my PhD thesis titled Quantum Waveguide Theory (which is available from the UWA library) or my Honours thesis titled Quantum Chaos in Second Harmonic Generation - Stu. |

How to initiate a cart wheel
Start off with 4m surf. Catch a wave just as its breaking (you know, when your boat is vertical on the wave). Let the wave throw you through the air. Just as your nose hits the water, flick your hips... and its initiated. The bonus of this method is that the first few wheels are completely free as the wave dumps over you. Throw a few extra wheels on the end, a few flat spins in the foam... and you'll look like a pro in no time.
Oh... don't worry about the ear-to-ear welt under your chin, that was just the wave forgetting to undo your helmet as it tries to remove it.

Bloody bike
Been back on the bike for 3 days and this morning, I got 4 punctures. I fixed two, pumped it up, jumped back on and got about 20m before I heard the fft-fft-fft of a pucture. I fixed that one, got back on and got about another 20m. Yet another puncture. I repaired the 4th one and managed to get to work about 30mins late.
To top it all off, it started raining while I was fixing my 2nd pucture. Anyway, got to work safely, a little wet and dirty.

Hard at work
When I left ANUSF they bought me a bar fridge for my new office. The bar fridge arrived about a week before I did, which gave my, then, new office colleagues a hint of things to come
The little poster on the front is a requirement of CSIRO. I had to get formal permission to have drinks on a friday and I have to provide food, light beer, soft drinks and have the poster in a prominent position.
All part of the brave new world. Leads to better efficiency I hear ;)

Back on the bike
Its been a little over a week since the crash, but I'm back on the bike today. It feels good. Still a bit stiff and sore, but that should go soon.

Helmet causes bike accident
For years I've had a firm belief that wearing a bike helmet causes accidents. Within 3 weeks of the purchase of my bike helmet, I was cycling home and my helmet decided to take a death dive over my handle bars (when I was doing about 30km/h). Of course, since it was strapped to my head, I had to follow. Since my bike was attached to my feet (you know, that stupid bloody cleat/peddles) it also had to follow. I was left lying on my laptop, helmet on the grount and bike on me. Thankfully, I'd had a few drinks and didn't feel anything until a few hours later. A quick trip to the hospital a few days of a really stiff neck and I'm fine.

Lower Murray trip
Here are some photos of a recent paddling trip down the Lower Murray (about 100km South of Perth). A great technical grade 4 river.
Thanks Dan

60 Years of Marriage
On the 14th of April, my grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After 60 years of wedding bliss, my grandfather still wears his tea-cosie hat... they also got some letters from some slightly important people. A large fraction of the family (9 children+partners, 20 grandchildren+partners, 1 great grand child and other close friends and relatives) gathered at a Cradle Mountain lodge for a night of festivities. Congratulations Grandma and Grandad.

Near iPod death
Who said iPod's weren't dangerous? I was almost knocked off my bike this morning cause I was blissfully unaware of the oncoming traffic. Surely, with my iPod shuffle blaring away, I can fend off speeding cars with my bare hands?
